Academic or General ?
IELTS Academic measures the English language proficiency needed for an academic, higher education environment. IELTS General Training measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context. This version of the test is also often a visa requirement for those planning to migrate to English speaking countries including Australia, the UK, and New Zealand.
Is IELTS reliable?
The IELTS nine (9) band score system grades scores consistently. It is secure, bench-marked and understood worldwide. Test materials are designed carefully so that every version of the test is of a comparable level of difficulty.
What happens if you could not attend the teat due to some unavoidable circumstances?
Under normal circumstances, you will be treated as an absentee. However, there are some special circumstances under which your application may be considered with some conditions. Please refer to the Transfer/Cancellation Application Form available in “Downloads” section to access the policy guidelines/terms and conditions and form for such special circumstances. However, please be informed that the acceptance of your application is subject to approval by the test centre, whose decision will be final and binding.
What if I am unhappy about the results?
Candidates may apply for a re-mark (Enquiry on Results). This must be done within six weeks of the test date. The candidate may choose which modules are to be re-marked. There is a fee of Rs. 7,425/- (Rupees Seven Thousand Four Hundred Twenty Five Only) (including Service Tax) for this service. The fee must be paid by Demand Draft drawn in favour of “IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED”, payable at New Delhi. The fee will be refunded if the result is changed. A re-mark can take six to eight weeks to be processed.
In order for a re-mark (Enquiry on Results) to be processed, the candidate must return their original TRF along with a re-mark (Enquiry on Results) form which is available in “Downloads” section on this website. Once the re-mark (Enquiry on Results) has been re-marked, the result is final and no other re-mark (Enquiry on Result) for the same test/s is permitted.
All IELTS-related research activities are coordinated under a framework for ongoing test development and validation. Cambridge English Language Assessment has responsibility for specific research and development, and IDP: IELTS Australia and British Council fund and support a research program. Test data is regularly analysed to ensure that IELTS remains fair and unbiased and that it encourages, reflects and respects international diversity.

Where all IELTS is accepted ?
General Skilled Migration
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship requires applicants to have sufficient ability in English for working in Australia. IELTS is the recognized test of both Vocational and Competent English and points are awarded based on scores achieved.
IELTS Band scores are required for Student Visa applications. IELTS requirements for Student Visas vary according to the candidates’ nationality and education sector of their proposed study program.
IELTS is the only internationally available test of English proficiency recognised by Citizenship and Immigration Canada for immigration purposes. Immigration candidates are awarded points according to the score they achieve in the IELTS General Training module.
Immigration New Zealand requires an IELTS Overall Band Score of 6.5 in either the General Training or Academic IELTS Modules. Unless meeting exemption requirements, the IELTS Band Score is mandatory for application in the General skills migration category.
The United Kingdom Border Agency is using IELTS for proof of English language ability in the Points Based System (PBS). PBS allows migrants to apply to work or study in the UK via one of five ‘tiers’. If applying under Tier 1 or 2, migrants are required to provide proof of English language ability. IELTS is an approved English language test which can provide this proof.
